The hike from Breitfurt to the Alexanderturm tower ruins via Kirchheimer Hof is very varied and offers everything you could wish for on a typical Bliesgau hike: incredible views, sparse forests, meadows and history.
The Alexanderturm loop leads to the highest elevation in the lower Blies Valley, the Kahlenberg, which is around 400 meters high. The Alexander Tower was completed there in 1893. Due to its proximity to the village of Böckweiler, the tower was known as the "Böckweiler observation tower" and was not only a widely visible symbol of the Blies landscape, but also a popular hiking destination. When the weather was good, the 26.35-metre-high tower provided an all-round view: the view extended as far as the Donnersberg in the north-east, across the Zweibrücken and Pirmasens region to the heights of the Palatinate Forest and the Haardt in the east, and far into the mountains of the Vosges in the south-east, while the park-like structured cultural landscape of the Bliesgau and Bickenalbtal as well as the "Parr" spread out at its feet.
The ruins of the Alexander Tower are located near the Kahlenberger and Kirchheimer Hof farms in the Breitfurt district between Breitfurt and Böckweiler.
