The hike takes us past the imposing Stubenfelsen massif to the heights of Calw and into the dreamy little town of Zavelstein with its castle ruins.Hermann Hesse's beloved homeland was the northern Black Forest around his native town of Calw. He himself was an enthusiastic hiker and left behind many a verse about it: "Oh, you hikers, you merry light-footed men, I look after each of you like a king, with respect, admiration and envy." The old town of Calw with its historic market square is also worth admiring. Here you can follow in the footsteps of Herrmann Hesse and discover many a picturesque corner. Leaving Calw, the route first takes you light-footedly to Kentheim with the church of St. Candidus dating back to 1075, which is well worth seeing. The path then climbs steeply over the Stubenfelsen rock to Zavelstein. But the ascent is rewarded - Zavelstein is a jewel. The picturesque little town with its castle and wonderful places to stop for refreshments can rightly call itself a "resort". The wild crocus blossom in early spring is also a feast for the eyes.
