Traumschleife Himmels Gääs Paad

Almost ascent-free, full of scenic views and along romantic paths, the trail reaches Lake Noswendel with its many leisure activities and gastronomic offerings. A hiking trail for the whole family.

The hike starts along the lakeside path. Shortly after the start, you pass the Kneip facility and a little later cross the Noswendeler See leisure center. A wooden boardwalk takes you into the "Noswendeler Bruch" nature reserve.

The footbridge runs between the mill stream and the water wilderness. The 150-hectare nature reserve, home to the meadow pipit, reed warbler, snipe and red-backed shrike, has been designated a European bird sanctuary for its biodiversity and is one of the largest of its kind in Saarland. The wind whispers in the man-high reed thicket that seems impenetrable, bird calls reach your ears from all directions, you seem to have arrived in another world.

Behind the "Alte Mühle" inn and beer garden, natural paths meander through the forest. We are in the Waderner state forest. Deep forest passages with gnarled oaks and beeches alternating with open landscape and wide views dominate the scenery in the second part of the hike. When you finally leave the forest, the Noswendel reservoir lies in the valley below.

By the way: the name of the dream loop goes back to the water bird snipe. The mating sound it makes with its wings sounds like the bleating of a goat, which is why the common snipe is also known as the "sky goat" (Himmelsgääs).
