On a walk through the district town of Saarlouis, you will encounter stone witnesses to the past at every turn. The Bourbon lilies on the town's coat of arms are a reminder of its founder: Louis XIV, who had the town built as a fortified city by his famous builder Vauban in 1860.

The best way to get to know the city of the Sun King and Vauban's fortifications is on a guided tour in a convivial atmosphere. In addition to the open city tours every Saturday at 11 a.m. and numerous themed tours, the Saarlouis Tourist Information Office also offers a low-barrier city walk for groups.

On a short route of about one kilometer, you can search for traces in the city park, where imposing walls, such as the Hornwerk, bear witness to the former size of the fortress. In the shade of ancient trees, you can also enjoy the peace and quiet on this tour not far from the bustling city center.Numerous insights and views of the fortified town make the walk on paved paths very varied. The charming riverside promenade is home to many bird species. The highlight of the route is Vauban Island. It is one of the most beautiful places in Saarlouis. Seasonal gastronomy and events, such as open-air concerts, make the Vaubaninsel a much-visited cultural venue in the city.A mobile hearing system is available for people with hearing impairments. Depending on the group and their interests, the tour can be extended individually, for example with a section along the waterfront promenade, a walk to the Ravelin or into the city center with its old town.

The tour starts at the Katerturm tower in the city park next to the Aqualouis indoor swimming pool. There is also a bus stop at the indoor pool. A stop with drinks in the island garden on Vauban Island can also be booked by arrangement.
