The deep blue Herrenbach reservoir is idyllically nestled in the forest. The comfort hiking trail winds its way around the reservoir and along the playful forest adventure trail.
The trail is classified according to the criteria of the nationwide "Travel for All" label and has the "Accessibility tested" award. All details on accessibility can be found by clicking on the "green plus" in the "Accessibility" menu item. The test reports are available in German and English. PLEASE NOTE: The path from the parking lot to the lake has longitudinal gradients of up to 18%. There is a 7cm threshold to overcome at a wooden bridge on the way.
The path around Herrenbachsee lake, located below Adelberg, is a walk that allows for a variety of speeds. You can complete it at a brisk pace in little more than an hour. Or you can take your time and spend a whole day here on the shores of the lake and in the surrounding forest.
After just under 500m was the former castle. The moat is still clearly visible today. The depression in the inner part was once the fountain. A short detour there is worthwhile (approx. 50m). Little is known of its history, but there is some speculation. A description by the Oberamt Schorndorf from 1851 contains the following note:
"Reference is made to a "Burg Ebersberg", which belonged to the founder of Adelberg, Folknand von Staufen, who was the last of his house to be buried with shield and helmet in Adelberg Monastery."
Around the lake, young and old explorers will find all kinds of interesting facts about the forest and its history on the forest adventure trail. You can turn a wooden wheel, discover a fairytale fountain or follow the tracks of badgers, squirrels and foxes on the stalking trail. There are also several new marble runs along the circular trail. For €1.00, wooden marbles can be taken out of the machine.
And as beautiful as the trail is, it is also nice that almost everyone can walk it comfortably or be driven around the lake. Well-maintained paths invite people who are no longer so good on foot and little ones can also be driven here in their baby carriages without too much effort. The historic Herrenmühle mill on the lake is the perfect place for an enjoyable stop.
