This walking tour through the city center takes you to the churches and monasteries in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The starting point is St. John's Church on Johannisplatz, a popular photo motif and landmark of the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd with its prominent bell tower right at the junction of Johannisplatz and Marktplatz. Opposite the cathedral is the Protestant St. Augustine's Church. Back on St. John's Square, opposite St. John's Church is the Prediger, the former Dominican monastery. On the market square you will see the Grät, one of the oldest houses in the city, and the Spitalmühle at the other end of the market square in the hospital courtyard. Through the Marktgässle you reach the Church of St. Francis and the complex of the former Franciscan monastery. The Schwörhaus is right next to it. Via Franziskanergasse and Honiggasse you reach the St. Leonhard cemetery chapel and the Herrgottsruhkapelle chapel. Back along Bocksgasse and Grabenallee, you will find St. Joseph's Chapel on Josefsstraße. Walking out of town along Bergstraße, we come to the monastery of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. Now you can walk back into the town or via Weißensteinerstraße to the Holy Trinity Chapel and from there along the "Trasse", a former railroad line from Schwäbisch Gmünd to Göppingen, towards Schwäbisch Gmünd. On this "Trasse" you are rewarded with a wonderful view of Schwäbisch Gmünd. At the level of the Gmünd indoor swimming pool, you reach the former hospital for infirmaries, Sankt Katharina, in Schwerzerallee and thus return to the town.
