The salt trail follows in the footsteps of salt and leads far back into the history of the town of Bad Friedrichshall.

The history of the salt town of Bad Friedrichshall is closely linked to the topic of "salt". King Friedrich von Württemberg had salt drilled in the early 19th century and thus became the patron saint of the town. As early as 1816, King Friedrich von Württemberg ordered the construction of a salt works in Jagstfeld. In 1818, the first boiling plant was fired up, in 1821 the extensive site became the new salt works and in 1859 the second attempt to sink a shaft in Jagstfeld was successful. Salt production there came to an abrupt end in 1895 after a tunnel collapsed. Today, the idyllic shaft lake and a historic treadwheel are reminders of this former mine.The salt hiking trail takes you through the history of salt mining and to the places where the historical events took place.
