Around Kalbe (Milde) - A bike tour through typical Altmark villages

Short description

The tour takes you through picturesque, small Altmark villages and partly along the Milde-Biese-Aland-Tour.

Directions

Our journey begins at the hiking base at the castle, between MEDIAN Clinic and nursing home.

We then continue along the castle moat. At the old water mill, we cross the Milde and ride along the park. Then we cross the Milde again at the old railway bridge. We continue downstream along the small path between the fir trees and the Milde. After the big bend, where the Milde was straightened at the end of the 18th century, we continue to the Goliath Bridge.

In the background, where the old poplars can be seen, once stood the main building of the naval transmitter Goliath.

We follow the path until we reach the connection between Karritz and Butterhorst. Please turn right here. After a short distance, we cross the Milde and the Secantsgraben again, and reach Karritz. At the point where we come to the highway, you can see the old mill of Karritz on the opposite side. We now turn right and follow a section of the highway through Neuendorf am Damm (past the old station of Neuendorf) to Kremkau. Pay attention at the intersection in Neuendorf, as there is relatively heavy traffic. Upon arriving in Kremkau, we drive through the village towards Algenstedt.

Just before leaving the village, on the right side, you will find the so-called Luthereiche, where we turn right and descend into the valley of the Milde. Please stay on the main path. There are several side paths that cross or turn off. However, these are meadow paths that end somewhere in the terrain. We cross the bridge over the Secantsgraben (now for the 2nd time). Then it is not far to Schenkenhorst. Here we can follow the described route and then cross the Milde near the mill. Passing by the church and the former manor house of the von Alvensleben family, we turn right in the middle of the village and drive to the northern Milde bridge. Unfortunately, the manor house cannot be visited. In summer, the popular park singing always takes place here.

Alternatively, we can continue straight ahead just before Schenkenhorst, thus also reaching the northern Milde bridge. Here begins one of the most beautiful paths along the Milde to Kalbe.

Arriving in Kalbe, we follow the course of the big Milde to the swimming pool. Before the swimming pool, also called open-air pool, we turn right into the white wall and quickly reach our starting point again.
