Scenic hiking tour around the picturesque Börnecke.
Fragrant pine forests, heather, and picturesque avenues of fruit trees alternate on this easy hike with beautiful views of the Harz foothills and the Brocken.
Not far from the starting point at the riding hall, in spring you will find an exceptional occurrence of blooming Adonis flowers. Creative hikers will be rewarded above the riding arena with a surprise: here is a hidden sandstone rock with a small cave, although there is no proper path leading to it.
From the ridge path over the Tönnigsberg, a hiking trail branches off to the Langenstein-Zwieberge Memorial Site, which is only a few hundred meters away.
On the way back to the village, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Harz and the Brocken and linger for a moment at the Börnecke sulfur spring.
Follow the signage R on the green petal.
The starting point of the hike is at the riding hall on Halberstädter Straße. On the paved field path, head north towards the forest edge. Here, the circular hiking trail branches off to the left. In spring, a detour from the circular hiking trail to the right to the yellow blooming Adonis flowers on the Weinberg is worthwhile. It is one of the largest occurrences of these protected plants.
The Börnecke circular hiking trail now continues below the ridge on your right side. Pine forest and sandy soil with heather determine the beautiful natural panorama. After the riding arena, turn right and walk about 200 m along the small forest aisle steeply uphill to the Tönnigsberg. At the next trail junction, you could continue straight ahead towards the Langenstein-Zwieberge Memorial Site, which is a short distance away on the back of the Tönnigsberg. However, our circular hiking trail turns left at this point, about 1.4 km along the ridge path of the forested Tönnigsberg. A narrow path through the forest leads the interested hiker to the right to a memorial stone erected in memory of a slain shepherd.
The main path leads gently downhill to the trail junction, where you turn left. After a few meters, the Börnecke field and the expanses of the Harz foothills open up before you. A bench invites you to linger. The hike continues on the wide main path before crossing the grove on the marked path to your left.
You are now on the south side of Börnecke Seeberg. Enjoy the sunny location and the beautiful view of the Harz mountains. A bench here invites you to rest and linger. The comfortable meadow path continues through old orchards and horse paddocks towards the village. The circular hiking trail ends in Börneckes street Rahle. At the intersection, turn left onto Lange Straße and then left onto Langensteiner Straße. From here, a detour to the sulfur spring is worth it. To get there, pass the small equestrian center on the left, past the information board of the Emperors & Kings, and you will soon be at Börneckes most relaxing place, the origin and namesake of the district at the same time: the Börnecke sulfur spring. Once a hermit settled here, who is said to have performed healings at the local spring. A beautiful place to pause once more and enjoy the peace before returning the same way and along Gartenstraße to the starting point of your hike today.
