Short description

With beautiful views of the valley and the Brocken, its all about the Innerstestausee.

Description

The main street in Lautenthal is named after the miner Kaspar Bitter. Around 1530, he discovered a rich vein of ore on Kranichsberg. This was the beginning of mining in Lautenthal and the basis for the development of the town into a Free Mining Town. Today, the state-recognized spa town, as one of five districts, belongs to the city of Langelsheim and offers its guests, in addition to a mining museum, about 200 km of well-maintained hiking trails through the beautiful Harz forest.

Directions

From the Tourist INFO in Lautenthal, follow Kaspar-Bitter-Str., then turn right onto Sparenbergweg.

Behind the bridge over the Innerste River, the hiking trail to the Innerstetalsperre begins on the left with the Blue X marking. Next to it is a Geological Nature Trail, where signs explain the remarkable rock formations. Turn right in front of the company site onto the forest path marked with a Green Triangle, continue towards the dam. Uphill along the western slope of Ecksberg to Rote Klippe, where there is a shelter and a nice rest area overlooking the dam. A steep path leads back down to the trail with the Blue X to the dam with a beautiful view of the valley. Then continue straight into the forest uphill on a forest path towards Vereinsplatz with a shelter and stamping point of the Harzer Wandernadel. The trail leads south towards Kalte Birke on a high trail through the spruce forest. Here, a stone with a wolfs hook (symbol for a wolf trap) marks the border between the municipalities of Seesen and Wolfshagen. At Kalte Birke, there is another shelter with a stamping point. The descent begins at Schnapsplatz to the left onto Präsidentenweg. The path initially continues straight, then in a large loop to L516. From there, it continues with another loop around Bromberg, then along Kastanienallee to Bismarckpromenade, past Bergfestplatz and along Kurpark back to the starting point. Approximately 200 km of well-maintained hiking trails through the beautiful Harz forest.
