RemstalWeg Etappe 04: von Unterkirneck nach Straßdorf

Enjoy hiking on the fourth stage of the Remstal Trail from Unterkirneck to Straßdorf. This varied stage takes you through romantic villages, across meadows and fields as well as tranquil woodland areas to three historical sites from Roman times.

Today you can either take the bus again from Lorch train station in the direction of Göppingen to the Hohenlinde stop or hike from Muckensee along a paved path and then relatively steeply uphill to Hohenlinde and on to Oberkirnek.

From the end of Oberkirnek, walk along the Hetzenhof golf course and past a stone cross in a straight line towards the forest. 200 m before the forest, turn left and walk north again through meadows towards the edge of the forest. In the forest, the trail descends again towards Remstal and along the B29 for a while until you cross the Tannbach stream. Turn left along the country road for 100 m until the forest path begins on the right. Pass the Froschbrunnen fountain and zigzag through the Großer Katharinenwald forest until you reach the Hölltal valley and cross the Tiefenbach stream.

Then it's another short stretch through the forest and in a curve around the forest settlement of the town of Schwäbisch Gmünd. After 50 m on the residential road, a small path begins on the right, which you follow until you cross the Deutenbach stream near a former fish pond. You will then come across Roman remains: the Schirenhof fort, the fort baths of the same name and the burial ground - three historic Roman sites that can be visited along the Gmünd Limes circular hiking trail. The Kapellenhof in Straßdorf, today's destination, is just a few steps away along the Schirenhof settlement and across the fields - on the "Paths to Art" sculpture trail.
