Description by the author

This award-winning quality hiking trail leads right through the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park, along the cultural and historical Eppinger Linien defense system between Eppingen and Mühlacker.

Eppinger-Linien-Weg

Your hike on the Eppingen Line Trail takes you along the former defensive wall of Eppingen, via Sternenfels and Maulbronn to Mühlacker.

This cultural and historical hiking trail is ideal as a 2-day tour with Sternenfels as the day's destination, but can also be hiked in individual sections - or in one piece for the more ambitious.

Explore the region's rich history and diverse landscape on foot - through tranquil forests, idyllic orchards, romantic half-timbered villages and with fantastic views over the Kraichgau region. The UNESCO World Heritage Maulbronn Monastery is a cultural highlight along the route.

Eppingen lines

The Eppingen Lines were established at the end of the 17th century during the French War of Succession. Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden, also known as "Türkenlouis" due to his successes in battles against the Turks, had this defensive system built from Neckargemünd to Weissenstein with ramparts, trenches, entrenchments and palisades. In the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park, you can follow the course of the often still clearly visible rampart and ditch system from Eppingen to Mühlacker. Replicas of the Chartaquen (wooden watchtowers) and information boards provide additional information on the structure and use of the defensive wall.Large sculptures by Gemmingen artist Hinrich Zürn have been installed at nine stations along the trail, symbolically presenting the exciting history of the Eppingen lines. The focus is not first and foremost on the sculptures, but on the effects of the historical events of the war on the ordinary people of the region and the reference to today's situation in a united Europe.
