The Schreckstein Trail leads past the Illingen vineyards, the "Schreckstein", the Eselsburg castle near Vaihingen-Ensingen and the Illingen lakes, starting at the hiking parking lot north of Illingen. After a few kilometers, you will reach the new vineyards. There is a viewing platform on the path above the vines. From there you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Enz valley. The route continues slightly downhill in a westerly direction. After crossing the K4510, the trail leads through the Illinger Wald forest towards Vaihingen-Ensingen and the next sight. The Schreckstein, the namesake of our long hiking tour, is a boundary stone that is probably 650 years old, a so-called "Viermärker". The districts of Illingen, Schützingen, Ensingen and Gündelbach meet at its location. There are many legends and stories about the Schreckstein, and the hiking trail leads past the Schreckstein towards Eselsburg castle near Vaihingen-Ensingen. Passing the outskirts of Ensingen, the trail leads back to Illingen. Passing the monastery lakes and the climbing forest, you return to the starting point.
