Weiherwiesen Weg

A beautiful nature reserve with two ponds as well as open areas with birch trees, historic Hafner pits and a ponordoline (swallow hole) await hikers.

A little piece of Scandinavia awaits visitors to the Weiherwiesen nature reserve on the Albuch in the Ostalbkreis district. The area, which belongs to the municipality of Essingen, is rich in terms of botany, geology and historical use. The area has been a nature reserve since 1978. It is owned by the Swabian Heritage Association.The circular route, which has been certified as a dream tour by the German Hiking Association, begins in the forest before reaching the open areas of the nature reserve. After a detour to historic stove pits, hikers reach the "waterfall" via the Weiherschlauch, which is also a nature reserve. The route then climbs slightly uphill to the beautifully situated Tauchenweiler restaurant and back to the starting point.
