On the occasion of Johann Friedrich Mayer's 300th birthday, the Pfarrer Joh. Friedr. Mayer-Gesellschaft zu Kupferzell e.V. marked out a cycle path. Along the 22 km route, information about the work of the country priest is provided at 16 points.
Johann Friedrich Georg Hartmann Mayer was born in Herbsthausen on September 21, 1719. He was a Protestant pastor in Kupferzell (Hohenlohe) from 1745 to 1798. Here he worked as a teacher of the people. Mayer was responsible for the introduction of gypsum fertilization to increase yields, the introduction of fodder beet, the cultivation of clover on fallow land, cider fruit cultivation and keeping livestock in stables.
Mayer introduced other forward-looking proposals, such as the introduction of insurance and technical innovations, opinions on political and social issues, and much more. We also have him to thank for the introduction of potato cultivation in our region. His work earned him the nicknames "Gipsapostel" and "Bauernpastor" from posterity. From 1768 onwards, Mayer wrote no fewer than 37 economic treatises.Link to the cycle path: http://pfarrer-mayer-gesellschaft.de/01-radweg_start/
