Wanderweg entlang der Europäischen Wasserscheide Rhein Donau Etappe: von Echbeck zum Höchsten

The Upper Linzgau and therefore also the communities of the Northern Lake Constance vacation region are centrally located between the two main waterways of Europe, the Rhine and the Danube. Cultures, customs and dialects have always developed along these rivers, merging and increasingly coming together here in this region.

The hiking trail along the European watershed leads through a geologically significant and wonderfully scenic natural landscape with often magnificent views of the Hegau volcanoes and, on a clear day, the Swiss Alps.

At the start of the trail, you can find out more at the glacier gate sculpture in Rickertsreute. It is probably the most beautiful section of the themed trail. On the way to the Höchsten, you walk over the Rappenfelsen rock along a Nagelfluh ridge. There is a view of the Deggenhausertal valley, a former glacier tongue, up to 180 meters below. Sharp, small gorges and landslides show you how the Danube loses centimetres to the Rhine every year.

This tour allows you to pay special attention to the natural features of the geology, flora and fauna. Informative sculptures have been created at various points along the way to give you an insight into the special features of the watershed. Hike up the highest mountain between Lake Constance and the Danube. The Höchsten lies at 833 meters and is a very special point, equipped with an observation tower, Swabian-Alemannic dialect trail and the Promipfad. Enjoy an unforgettable view of Lake Constance and the Alps. At the end of the stage, you can enjoy refreshments at the Berggasthof am Höchsten and soak up the fantastic ambience.
