Bannwald

The "Bannwald" tour is ideal if you want to see the renaturation measures in the "Obere Schnöden". You also cross the largest protected forest in the state of Baden-Württemberg with 441 hectares and one of the largest contiguous moorland areas in southern Germany.

With 441 hectares of undisturbed forest reserve, the Pfrunger-Burgweiler Ried protected forest is the largest protected forest in Baden-Württemberg to date. Different types of forest are left to develop naturally here: Bog pines in raised bogs, spruce trees, which also stand on renaturalized bog areas and will partly die off and make way for other forest forms, beech and oak trees on mineral soil, scrub on former reed meadows. The "Bannwald" circular trail allows you to experience the mosaic of different types of forest with the special biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant species at first hand.

The Ulzhausen hiking parking lot is a good starting point. The circular trail is signposted throughout with "Bannwald", it partly runs along the Burgweiler reed nature trail, numerous information boards tell of the prehistory, peat use and renaturation of the reed, of flora and fauna.
