Description by the author

A historical and natural tour of approx. 7 km in length with numerous ruins and enchanted relics from 200 years ago. It is said to be a fairytale castle of the time, which can be brought back to life in your mind with a lot of imagination while hiking. As well as families, hikers looking for relaxation and inexperienced hikers will also have an impressive day ahead of them.

The Karlsberg loop combines everything important and interesting that hikers should know about the WaldPark Schloss Karlsberg over the course of 7 km and gives an idea of the splendor and size of this complex in the past. One of the contemporary witnesses is the picturesque Karlsberg pond, which is idyllically nestled in the forest near the Karlsberger Hof. The Kneipp and arm pool near the shore offers a welcome change on hot days before the trail climbs a little steeper up to the ruins of the orangery and then to the Bärenzwinger, the Schwanenweihern and the Tschifflik pavilion. All of these are remnants of the Karlslust Landscape Park, which delighted visitors 200 years ago. The Tschifflick Pavilion, for example, was probably built around 1785 in Karlslust as a garden house in the forest. The stilling basins and swan ponds, on the other hand, were created as bodies of water for visual purposes and to beautify the palace grounds, which were still largely free of trees at the time. The stables in the castle grounds, which were overgrown with plants and are now incorrectly referred to as "bear pens", are circular and arranged around an island in the middle and were originally used as aviaries for birds. Back then, the orangery helped the dukes to overwinter citrus fruits that were sensitive to the cold. Below the "Stumpfen Gipfels", the tour leads back to Karlsberger Hof. If you want to relax afterwards with a cool beer and a tasty feast, the Restaurant zum Schießhaus with its beer garden is the place to be.In some places, the Karlsberg loop runs parallel to the premium hiking trails Schlossbergtour and Herzog Karl II August Pfad.
