The ponds, which today essentially form the "Im See" nature reserve, are said to have been created on behalf of the Lords of Berlichingen - for fish farming.

Structurally rich shoreline areas around reservoirs serve as habitats and

retreats for numerous plant and animal species, some of which are endangered. In particular, they are breeding, resting and feeding areas for numerous bird species, some of which are endangered or threatened with extinction. Particular bird species that rest there are great egrets, cranes and ospreys. The nature reserve is therefore of supra-regional importance as a stepping stone biotope for water-bound migratory bird species. The approx. 8-hectare nature reserve "Im See" offers the only large areas of still water in the surrounding area - a blessing for the flora and fauna of our homeland!

The Krautheimer Kuharsch is a natural phenomenon in which the flowing water does not erode the end layers, but has exactly the opposite effect. Geologically speaking, the Jagst cuts through the shell limestone. As a result, underground water on the mountain slopes is enriched with lime. When this water emerges to the surface, the reaction with oxygen causes the lime to settle. The result is a so-called lime sinter, which forms a dam over the years. The water flows in a channel on this dam. The name is derived from the shape of the end run.
