The mining circuit is located in a region that was characterized by mining. First, the trail leads from Gilfershausen up to Herzberg through an alternation of forest, fields and meadows. From there, along the edge of the forest, there is a wonderful panorama over Bebra to Rotenburg and the Alheimer. The trail leads down through the forest into the beautiful Iba valley with its little stream. Here stands the Friedrichshütte, a former copper smelter to which the Brothers Grimm also had a close connection. Along the picturesque valley, you reach the entrance to the Kurfürstenstollen. From here, it is not far to the village of Iba, which has been characterized by mining for centuries. Now there is one more hill to conquer, the Weidelberg. You will then be rewarded with a view of the Iba valley and the Alheimer before the tour ends in Gilferhausen.
