Orber Dornstein - Europäischer Kulturweg

Whether as a historic salt metropolis or a modern spa town - in Bad Orb, everything revolves around the salty springs. Bad Orb, which today describes itself as a modern health center, can look back on more than 900 years of history of salt extraction and salt trade. The 9 km long cultural trail presents the town and the Orb valley between the Wartturm and the Wildpark. The starting point of the cultural trail is the (local history) museum in Orb, which is well worth a visit. If you follow the signposted path, you will reach the beautifully landscaped spa gardens. The Orb pharmacist Franz Leopold Koch started the spa tradition in 1837. After the sale to a group of investors in 1899, Bad Orb's reputation as a spa town continued to grow. Following the cultural trail further out of town, you will learn how salt is extracted from the brine, the process that produces the artificial sea air - the basis of the spa and health center. The circular walk now takes you out of the town along the River Orb to the wildlife park. From there you walk, initially through the forest, to the Küppelsmühle. A simple mill has developed into a modern rehabilitation clinic. On the way back, you pass the Bocksberg and reach the Wartturm tower high above the town, formerly part of the town fortifications. In good weather, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view from here. The circular tour ends at the museum.
