Pengel-Anton cycling route

In 1970, freight traffic between Soest and Belecke was also discontinued and the tracks were subsequently dismantled. After a period of lying fallow, the railway line was prepared for cycling until 1985 and opened for public use.
Those who ride the Pengel-Anton cycle path from Brilon will cycle downhill. In Rüthen, the district of Soest is quickly reached. A detour to the historic city center of the mountain town is recommended. But the opposite direction is also possible, typical for cycle paths on former railway lines, mostly without significant inclines.
Belecke also offers itself as a starting or ending point for a tour on the Pengel-Anton cycle path, as here cyclists have connections to the RLG bicycle bus towards Soest and Lippstadt/Warstein.
Between Rüthen, Belecke, and Lake Möhnesee, the different landscape characteristics of this region become apparent. North of this section, you will discover the areas used for agriculture below the southern slope of the "Haar", and to the south, the extensive forest areas of the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park.
Downstream along the Möhne River, the route then leads to Lake Möhnesee. In generous curves, you will gently cycle up from the valley to the ridgeline of the Haarstrang. Before descending towards the Hanseatic city of Soest with its numerous sights, it is worth taking a look from above at the lake and the distance covered in kilometers.
