Directions: Turn off B 6 to Linsburg. Immediately at the intersection in Meinkingsburg, turn right towards Bolsehle. You will pass by the restaurant and Hotel Meinkingsburg. At the beginning of the B 6 overpass, turn left and follow the path parallel to B6, at the end the path leads left about 300 m into the forest to the parking lot of the forest playground.
The description follows the red arrow of the signage.
The circular path through the Grinderwald, the former hunting grounds of the Hanoverian kings, is easy to navigate on developed forest paths. Due to forestry and wood harvesting activities, the paths may be temporarily affected. A hike through the old deciduous trees offers delightful views in every season. The trail starts and ends at the parking lot of the forest playground. Due to the many established forest paths, the circular route can be extended or shortened.
The first resting point is located at several ponds in the middle of the forest. Even a small bridge has been built over the ponds. They were created by damming the Linsburger Bach. Along a smaller forest path, you will come to the 1st hut "Zur Suhle". There you can also take a break and admire the old impressive oaks.
At the next intersection, 5 forest paths converge. Various hiking trails with distance markers have been carved into boulders. After a long hike past a post-war explosives bunker (the Allies stored dynamite there for removing tree stumps), you will reach the "Ernst-August-Hütte", named after the Hanoverian King Ernst-August (1771-1845). The hut was built in 1967 by the Waldjugend Linsburg. It is located in the shade of 160-year-old beech trees.
Through the trees, you can already see it, the television tower. When you stand at the base of the tower, you truly realize its size. The concrete tower was completed in 1978 and is 134 m high (platform 75 m). The path now leads towards the Russian Soldier Memorial. It is fenced, hidden in the middle of the forest. Here, on the edge of a beech grove, rest about 50 partially unnamed Russian and Polish prisoners of war. They died in 1944 and 1945 in labor camps, from where they were used for forest work among other tasks.
Just before reaching the starting point of the circular path, you can discover large boulders arranged in a circle under a mighty beech tree. The forest playground in Grinderwald is worth a visit with children. There, they can climb, slide, balance, and much more.
