Saltgitter hiking trail (from Gebhardshagen over the Herzberg)

The route begins quite relaxed on a paved wide path. This leads past the substation and a forest hut from the Liebenburg forestry office. If you like, you can take a break at the benches set up there. The further course of the path is then sometimes in the form of a narrow path along the ridge path through the Salzgitter mountain range. Therefore, it is advisable to wear sturdy footwear. Occasionally, strong plant growth along the path can be somewhat restrictive, especially in terms of the view of the surroundings. However, under a cleared high-voltage line, in good weather, there is a view of the Heerter See and also the Huttenwerk site. For the later descent back to the forest path, please note that it could be a bit slippery after rainy weather. The descent from the ridge path cannot be entered one-to-one here at outdooractive, as no prefabricated path guidance could be used. Please simply follow the path and the signage for path 21.
