The Altenau Hiking Trail is a tour for all those who appreciate particularly extensive hiking enjoyment. Shady natural forest paths alternate over 69km with well-paved paths along the banks of the Altenau and Husener reservoir. Sweeping views of the beautiful landscape with its idyllic villages reward for short ascents.
Hiking on the Altenau Hiking Trail is also an encounter with history, with architecture, with venerable churches and half-timbered romanticism. Worthwhile is, for example, a detour to the imposing Dalheim monastery complex, which today houses the LWL State Museum for Monastery Culture.
Hiker-friendly restaurants and cafes such as those in the historic Mallinckrofthof ensure physical well-being and provide strength for the next hiking kilometers.
