Kingwinter - the classic hike

The romantic gorge, with the old wine cellars hewn into the rock for cool storage of wines, is used by many guests for the ascent to the Drachenfels who do not want to travel comfortably by cog railway. Upon reaching the end of the valley, we turn into the hollow path towards the Milchhäuschen, not without first admiring the view of Drachenburg Castle and the newly planted orchard. We continue hiking on the German Unity hiking trail to the Milchhäuschen forest restaurant, which invites you to take a break. After fortifying ourselves, we take the path to the Drachenfels, passing by Wolkenburg, whose view of the Rhine Valley we can only admire at the end of the tree-lined avenue, when we walk back a short distance along the slope following the hiking map. To the Drachenfels restaurant, newly built and opened in 2012, it is only a few meters away, where we enjoy the breathtaking view down into the Rhine Valley. We walk along the riverside Donkey Path towards the Old Town of Königswinter and arrive at Drachenburg Castle and the Natural History Conservation Foundation. Both are worth seeing, as well as the Nibelungenhalle further down the mountain with an attached reptile zoo. Thus, in just under 2 hours, we have hiked to the most important tourist destinations in Königswinter.
