Varied, with partially spectacular views and naturally lush greenery, that's how the Kerkener Bruch presents itself to its visitors. The term "Bruch" dates back to earlier times when the entire area was much wetter than it is today. High groundwater and clayey soil layers are unsuitable for agriculture, so the area was only used for obtaining firewood and straw. Typically, the villages are lined up at the edges, in the transition area to the adjacent higher, fertile areas, like a string of pearls. This hike takes you a long way along this area before heading into the Eyller Bruch. In the middle lies the Eyller See, inviting you to take a rest. Finally, you can take a leisurely stroll through the pretty village of Aldekerk with numerous listed buildings. There is also a good selection of eateries with excellent cuisine.
