Description by the author

Rays of sunlight illuminate the Lohhaupten valley surrounded by forest, tickling the hiker's nose and giving them a pleasantly warm feeling - the motto of the 15.8 km long fair-weather trail with that very special mountain feeling is to always walk towards the sun or, in an anti-clockwise direction, with its glow at your back.

The sunny Spessart trail leads from the pretty old village center with its charming alleyways and house facades to the slope spur of the Kirchenschlag. The old village church with its medieval tower stands here in the elevated, formerly fortified churchyard. Leaving the village center behind, the trail runs parallel to the Lohrbach stream, which gives the village its name. After passing the Gelnhäuser valley, the trail climbs up to Widdehuh, where you can take your first break on the hilltop. On fields and meadows that have been wrested from the forest slopes, the basin, which fans out to the north, continues to be explored - the soft natural and grassy paths caress the hiker's feet. Passing tall birch groves to the south of the Gosseberg, the route climbs up to its summit. The hilltops offer views on all sides - your gaze wanders in free flight. Having recharged your batteries, you hike down through the forest, sniffing the sun-warmed forest floor, into the Engetal valley. The path moves away from the ridgeway below the wooded slopes and leads, occasionally accompanied by trees and well-kept hedges, with angular traits through an open field to the Weicherstaler Höhe and the Querberg. The Spessart trail runs along the agricultural open space for a while before it nestles again at the edge of the dense, deep Dohrhaupten municipal forest. The trees rise imposingly above the hiker's head - towering over him and yet offering him protection. Leaving the Kreuzeltal valley behind, the route curves over the wooded hilltop of the Böschel, leads in a sweeping loop through the Gemünden valley and heads towards the wildlife park on the Mühlberg slope. On the descent from the Mühlberg, there is another wonderful view of the narrow Lohrbach valley. Back at the starting point of the hike, the exhausted hiker is happy to relax on the lonely, quiet island of life in the middle of a large, dark sea of forest.
