Auf den Spuren des Tobelbachs - Westallgäuer Wasserweg 14

From the parking lot in Röthenbach, the trail leads onto a narrow forest and root path, which - always along the gently babbling Tobelbach stream - passes under a 36-metre-high and 112-metre-long railroad bridge. The imposing bridge was built in the middle of the 19th century. After a short ascent to the edge of the forest on the outskirts of Ellhofen, the route continues along the Tobelrandweg trail with its great views. This is followed by the descent to the Tobelmühle. The history of the former mill can be traced back to the 15th century. The narrow forest path leads along the stream to the former hammer mill. A few meters further on, the water of the Tobelbach flows down the valley over rushing cascades. A detour leads to the former Lerchenmühle, whose use can also be traced back to the 15th century. The exit from the ravine leads to the castle courtyard. Some remains of the walls are still reminiscent of the castle built before 1300, the former seat of the Knights of Ellhofen. Via Ellhofen (water treading area) and the former outdoor pool, the route continues towards Rentershofen into the Röthenbacher Moor with its comparatively natural damp and wet habitats. A few minutes later you are back in Röthenbach.
