From the hiking car park, in winter also the starting point for the extensive cross-country skiing network, the first part of the circular path leads through the eastern pastureland with two short detours into the village. The Holderbachtal is one of the most romantic valleys in the Monschau region. This is due on the one hand to the diverse slope forest, and on the other hand to the forest meadows that create a unique landscape atmosphere. Along the way, a wayside cross reminds of those Rohren residents who sought refuge from the approaching front's hail of bullets in this area in autumn 1944. Widdau is one of the most quaint places in the Monschau region. Located on the south slope of the Rur, it has preserved its homely character to this day. Fans of old half-timbered houses will get their money's worth here. The collection of historical tools at Gasthof Küpper provides an insight into life in ancient times. Among the newer buildings is the Hubertus Chapel, built in 1972, which invites you to pause for a moment.
At the outskirts of the village, you reach the gently sloping pastureland, a peculiarity in the otherwise steep valley of the Rur. It is worth stopping more often and letting the fascinating landscape with old hedges, mighty trees, and a wild rushing stream take effect on you. At the northwesternmost point of the circular hike, you should definitely pay a visit to the "Perdsley" with the "Eifel view." The striking rock high above the Rur offers a magnificent view of the valley with its extensive slope forests and the Höfen hedgerow landscape on the horizon. The shelter you reach during the ascent is much more than just a place for a breather. It is part of an exciting and informatively designed nature trail with numerous exhibits. A soothing vastness surrounds you from the edge of the forest. With every step, the views increase. Even the Monschau Castle is visible above the incision of the Rur Valley. You have an impressive distant view to the west from Rödchenstraße. There you will also come across a special attraction: the summer and winter sports center. While skiers glide downhill in winter, guaranteed fun for young and old from April to November includes the 751-meter-long summer toboggan run, among other leisure activities. Before you start the return journey through the "Dröft" with its typical beech hedges past the former school and the Josefskapelle, you should take a look at the replica of a draw well opposite the parish church. With such a "Pötzroot," a wooden pole with a hook and bucket, the residents of Rohren drew water from the house wells for centuries. By the way, this circular path is perfect for people who like to stop by on their way to take a look at the regional cuisine.
