Moderately difficult hike. Good basic condition required. Mostly well accessible paths.
The decline of Haithabu was followed by the rise of Schleswig as a northern European trading metropolis. It was not until the High Middle Ages that Schleswig was replaced by Lübeck and Flensburg - the Schlei was no longer navigable for the large merchant ships. On this city tour, we will take you through the city harbor, to the fishing settlement of Holm, through the romantic old town and along the banks of the Schlei - first-class views of the city included. The starting point of your round tour is the city harbor. Here you can watch the hustle and bustle and stroll leisurely along the pier. A little later, you will walk past old houses through the fishing settlement of Holm and then along Holmer Noor. The hiking trail leads across meadows to the old town of Schleswig. After the walk through the old town, you will cross the Schlei at Gottofer Damm and also look at the impressive Gottorf Castle. The path finally leads along the shore of the Schlei to the ferry terminal in Haddeby, which is well worth seeing. Unfortunately, the ferry no longer runs, so you stroll the way back again and enjoy the view just a second time.
