Mit der Bahn in die Berge: Von Kreuzstraße nach Darching entlang der Mangfall

It only takes 39 minutes to get from Munich main station to the starting point on Kreuzstraße, a part of the village of Valley (a few minutes more with the S7). From the station, you can quickly reach the forest path that runs parallel to the railroad line. Passing the Teufelsgrabenbrücke bridge (not the last impressive bridge on this tour), you finally reach the Mangfall.

The route continues south along narrow paths, past the Skulptur-Lichtung, an art space in the middle of nature with sculptures made of granite, marble, limestone and wood (admission €1).

In Valley, you're already more than halfway through the route - perfect for a stop at the famous Bräustüberl with its beautiful beer garden. Or you can save your hunger for another 2 kilometers later at the equally legendary Maxlmühle forest restaurant - or both... We currently recommend hiking from Valley along the valley path towards Maxlmühle. There are currently some fallen trees on the path along the Mangfall, which make it difficult to get through, especially with children. From the Maxlmühle it is then another 2 kilometers to the train station in Darching.

Attention: at the Weiglmühle (under the A8 highway bridge), the small road ends at the Mangfall and joins the ST2073. A small trail next to the main road leads to Mühlthal.
