Above the water treading facility in Oberkirchen, the Fritz-Wunderlich-Weg, a former railroad line, leads to the 272 m long and 39 m high Oberkirchen viaduct, the second largest stone bridge in Germany. The ascent to the actual Weiselberg circular trail begins at the start of the bridge and is reached at the end of a short tarred section. This leads along a fountain with a rest area and information board to the so-called "Stone Sea", a collection of huge boulders made of "Weiselbergite", which clasp the southern slope of the Weiselberg in a horseshoe shape. At the foot of the "Steinernes Meer" is a rest area with a large witch hanging above it.
If you wish, you can take a detour to the Weiselberg plateau via a steep uphill path. The panoramic view over the Sankt Wendel region is an unforgettable experience. Back at the "Steinernes Meer" rest area, we follow the circular route and reach our starting point at the water treading facility after approx. 1 hour.
