Brandensteinrunde

The foothills of the front Rhön and the transition to the Spessart characterize the landscape of this tour. Most of the route is on gravel and asphalt farm tracks. Experienced riders can also tackle the tour on a cross or good touring bike. First, you cycle through the old town of Schlüchtern, past the former monastery, on the cycle path to Elm. From a distance, you can already see the ridge on which Brandenstein Castle was built. After a steep climb, you reach the castle and are rewarded with a magnificent view of the Schwarzbach and Kinzig valleys. It is worth taking a look into the castle courtyard, but you should respect the privacy of the lord of the castle. The tour leads through changing scenery to Gundhelm and from here through a side valley up to the Alter Rück, the highest point of this tour. Passing the Rommersbrunner Wiesen and Stephanskuppe nature reserves, the route descends to Sterbfritz on varied terrain. Here you can take a detour to the Kinzig spring or cycle directly along a section of the Spessartbogen that leads to Bernhardskopf. Leave the hiking trail again at the old sports field in Weiperz. Past Teufelskanzel and Wilder Tisch, the tour leads through a beautiful beech forest down into the Ahlersbach valley. Small ponds invite you to take another break before the trail climbs one last time towards Hohenzeller Berg. A view of Schlüchtern and the Kinzig valley rounds off the tour. The route now descends along a forestry path to Schlüchtern and the starting point of the tour.
