Description by the author

Start in Cham at the large Floßhafen parking lot, over the Regenbrücke bridge to the Quadfeldmühle facilities, along the stream of the same name, over the Regenbrücke bridge to the Satzdorfer Weiher pond. This section through the Regenauen is very relaxing and invites you to look around. Clockwise, we have the Buchberg, Gibacht and Cerchov in the Further Valley, then Runding with the castle ruins, Haidstein, Kaitersberg and the Lamberg in view. The double-towered cathedral of Chammünster, the original church of the Upper Bavarian Forest, and the doors of the district town of Cham round off the view. From Satzdorf to Runding, the trail is marked with additional local markings. We leave Runding via the alley on the south side of the old parish church. We recommend visiting the exhibition in the church with finds from Runding Castle and information on the history of the castle and the powerful noble family of Notthaft, who once lived here and came from Bohemia. We walk through the village of Lufling and reach the forest after a meadow hollow. This is where the ascent to Haidstein (742 m) begins. The ascent (2 km) is accompanied by a Way of the Cross and leads into the large open area with the Berghaus (refreshment stop). From here a short ascent to the summit plateau. Here we have a view over the Regental valley beyond the town of Cham. On the plateau, the pilgrimage church of St. Ulrich attracts our attention. The church has a closed baroque interior. The main attraction is a larger-than-life Romanesque statue of Christ. We get the key to the church at the Berghaus. We leave Haidstein via the forest meadow and take the hiking trail that turns right immediately after entering the forest. Light forests accompany us on the rustic hiking trail. At the edge of the forest, we enjoy a beautiful view and then come to the hamlet of Ried with the famous Wolfram lime tree. This tree is said to be more than a thousand years old. The lime tree was named after the minnesinger Wolfram von Eschenbach. The last part of the trail leads into the forest after about 500 meters, which accompanies us until shortly before Bad Kötzting (3 km). At the end, we have a magnificent panorama in our field of vision. (Haymo Richter)
