The Gläserne Steig leads hikers on mostly easy paths through the natural cultural landscape and the extensive mountain forests of the Bavarian Forest. In six daily stages (length: approx. 99 km), the trail leads from the climatic health resort of Arrach through the Lamer Winkel, over the Arbergebirge mountains into the valley of the Regen river to Bayerisch Eisenstein and Zwiesel and on along the Bavarian Forest National Park via Spiegelau to Grafenau. On the hike through idyllic hedgerow landscapes, along dreamy forest streams or through rustic mountain forests, the history of this landscape, the glass tradition, is always omnipresent. The numerous villages and hamlets along the way, whose names end in -hütte or -schleif, refer to former glassworks and glass loops. But there are also many well-known glassworks along the way that are still in operation, inviting you to take an informative tour of the factory or a stroll through the sales rooms. The mineral museum in Arrach, the former quartz mining site at Hennenkobel (Kiesau) and the glass museum in Frauenau round off the rich cultural program along the Glass Trail. Stage 1: Arrach - Lohberg - distance: 18 km, walking time: approx. 4.5 hours; Stage 2: Lohberg - Bayerisch Eisenstein - distance: 17 km, walking time: approx. 5 hours; Stage 3: Bayerisch Eisenstein - Rabenstein - distance: 17 km, walking time: approx. 4.5 hours; Stage 4: Rabenstein - Frauenau - distance: 20 km, walking time: approx. 4.5 hours.Stage 5: Frauenau - Spiegelau - distance: 14 km, walking time: approx. 3.5 hours; Stage 6: Spiegelau - Grafenau - distance: 13 km, walking time: approx. 3 hours; Note: At each stage destination, hikers are given comprehensive information about glass production and the history of glass in the respective places in the form of information boards. At the end of the hiking week, each participant receives a certificate and a hiking pin from their host in Grafenau. Return transportation to the starting point is by cab and is included in the price. Note: Individual stages can also be booked! The central booking office for the "Gläserner Steig" package is the Grafenau Tourist Information Office.
