Romantic tour

Art enthusiasts, come here! Along the Romantic Road, cultural treasures abound: the historic old town of Schongau, the lavishly decorated former monastery churches of Steingaden and Rottenbuch. Heavenly beautiful: the Wieskirche (Dominikus Zimmermann), famous as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In between, nature competes with so much art to win over visitors, magnificent views reward efforts in many places. The bike tour follows the well-signposted bike route "Romantic Road," in the first part on the Eastern variant, in the second part on the Western variant. Camera packed? For the first snapshots, the old town of Schongau offers a good overview of the "Romantic Tour" from the city wall. First destination: Peiting, known for its down-to-earth Bavarian gastronomy. Uphill and downhill, the journey continues to Rottenbuch, where the monastery church already points the way from afar. Further on to Wildsteig, to a picturesque mountain village. A challenging section, here awaits the longest ascent of this tour (partly unpaved path). But the snack at the "Cheese Alm" tastes twice as good. Just a few more kilometers through a particularly attractive landscape until you reach the Wieskirche, the southernmost point of the route. From here, take the Western variant of the "Romantic Road," heading back north, which leads uphill and downhill again through Steingaden, Riesen, and Kreut back to Schongau. The Welfenmünster with the Romanesque cloister invites you to take a break in Steingaden once again, as do the beer gardens in the historic town center. 47.2 kilometers – but quite entertaining, right?
