Etappe 5, Ostschleife, Heilige Landschaft Pfaffenwinkel - Von Benediktbeuern nach Iffeldorf

Author's tip: The town center of Penzberg is a great place to rest.

Way description: We start the fifth stage at the monastery complex in Benediktbeuern heading northwest. We pass Bichl and follow the state road and the Loisach to Maxkron. At the entrance to the village, we turn left and at the end of Maxkron we meet the signs for the Pfaffenwinkel Sacred Landscape again, which we follow to the left through the Zibetholz forest towards Penzberg. After leaving the forest behind us, we reach the Berghalde recreation center in Penzberg. In the center of the plateau is the Barbara Chapel, a reminder of the former mining industry. The construction and the materials used are based on those used in mining. The church is therefore dedicated to the patron saint of miners, St. Barbara. Here we turn left again and take the path uphill, following in the footsteps of the Penzberg mining industry. We descend again from the Berghalde and pass the town center until we reach the railroad line. We follow this in a north-westerly direction. We turn left at the next junction and walk a short distance through a forest. After leaving the forest, we come to the Heuwinkl Chapel, a pilgrimage destination with a special architectural design. After visiting this gem, we continue on to Iffeldorf. We reach our stage destination at St. Vitus Church.
