Heckenweg

We start our short but impressive hike on the market square in Stadtsteinach.

We walk briefly down the road towards Untersteinach, but immediately turn right again and walk past the brewery along the local roads to the fire station on Lehenthaler Weg. We follow the road out of town and now walk up the Heckenweg for quite a long time to the heights, with the wide wooded area of the Espich on the left. The views become wider and more impressive the higher you go.

We experience the importance of the 40 km of hedgerows over an area of 560 hectares for typical flora and fauna. The landscape already belongs to the Upper Main quarry land (red sandstone, shell limestone and Keuper). At the top, we enjoy the wonderful view once again and then walk downhill into a hollow, briefly on a paved path.

There we change to the unmissable field path to the left uphill. It leads us to the edge of the forest on the hill through a cleared, hedge-free field. We follow a crossroads to the left to the war memorial and on to Baumgarten.
