Große Frankenwaldrunde (KC 13)*

Route: Kronach, Ruppen, Höfles, Marktrodach, Zeyern, Erlabrück, Steinwiesen, Birnbaum, road junction Hubertushöhe,Tschirn, Effelter, Lahm, Untergrümpelmühle, Wilhelmsthal, Steinberg, Friesen, Dörfles, Kronach (*)

Route description: Starting point is the train station in Kronach. Go straight from the station to the bridge over the Haßlach, then turn right onto the Europabrücke bridge, then left into Pfählangerstraße and left again. Then turn right and follow Rodacher Straße out of town until you reach the B 173. From here, the cycle path runs to the left of the B 173 as far as the district of Ruppen. Cross the B 173 at the traffic lights in Ruppen, then turn left onto the cycle path via Höfles to the rafting village of Marktrodach. From here, the route continues on flat cycle paths via Zeyern to Erlabrück. After Erlabrück, take the underpass and follow the Rodach to Steinwiesen. At the tourist office at the entrance to Steinwiesen, turn left into the Leitschtal valley, which later forks behind the district of Leitsch. The tour then follows a long ascent along the Rössenbach stream up to the Franconian Forest village of Birnbaum. At the northern end of the village, turn right onto the district road towards Hubertushöhe, past the observation tower. At the Hubertushöhe road junction, the route follows the low-traffic road through the forest to Tschirn. With magnificent views over the entire Franconian Forest, the cycle path leads to Effelter and Lahm. In the center of Lahm, the route runs steeply downhill and through the forest to Untergrümpelmühle. The road leads along the idyllic Grümpel valley to the imposing mountain village of Wilhelmstahl. From the end of the village, follow the cycle path to Steinberg and continue via Friesen and Dörfles back to Kronach.(*)
