Auf Wallfahrerwegen zur Basilika (KU 4)

Route description: Demanding, sporty tour in very varied terrain, through meadows and fields, on low-traffic roads in the typical Franconian Forest uplands. Starting from Marktleugast through meadows and fields on the cycle path from Tannenwirtshaus and Traindorf, the route follows the low-traffic district road KU 13 to Hohenberg. Cycle through the typical Franconian Forest uplands via Ober- and Untersauerhof and the winning village of Weickenreuth to Stammbach in the district of Hof on roads with little traffic. The route continues on district roads KU 1 and HO 22 via Gundlitz and Steinbach to the famous pilgrimage site of Marienweiher with its imposing basilica dating back to 1102. After just under 1 km, you reach Marktleugast again. The KU 4 circular cycle route runs through the Franconian Forest Nature Park. Local signposting: KU 4

Sightseeing highlights: Marktleugast: Germany's oldest pilgrimage site, the magnificent Marienweiher basilica, natural swimming pool, Zechteich recreation area; Stammbach: Weißenstein viewing tower (668 m), cemetery chapel from 1615.

Connecting routes: From the EUREGIO EGRENSIS long-distance cycle route, a detour to Marktleugast/Marienweiher is signposted at Maierhof. In Wirsberg, the EER is connected to the "WM" white cycle path.
