Schieferdecker-Tour (KC 3)*

Start & finish: Marktplatz 6 (church), 96337 Ludwigsstadt

Route: Ludwigsstadt town center, towards the ski lift, then on the Rennsteig to Steinbach a.Wald and on towards Thüringen, Ottendorf and back to Ludwigsstadt. (*)

Route description: This circular tour is not as strenuous as the work of the slaters, but soon after starting at the market square in Ludwigsstadt and leaving the town center in the direction of the ski lift, a good level of fitness is required. At first, the route is flat along Lindenstraße and Kehlbacher Straße alongside the Trogenbach stream. Later, only experienced cyclists will be able to get up to the Rennsteig without having to push past the Roter Turm. But then the effort of overcoming almost 200 meters in altitude is rewarded. Turning left onto the Rennsteig, the route is flat until you reach the traffic circle with the glass obelisk in Steinbach a.Wald. Cross the traffic circle. Then continue along Rennsteigstraße through the village of Steinbach a.Wald in the direction of Thuringia. At the end of the village, cross another traffic circle and after approx. 800 m you will reach the Ziegelhütte hiking parking lot. There, turn left towards Windrad, but then immediately right again. Continue along a country lane close to the border with Thuringia to Ottendorf and back to Ludwigsstadt. (*)

Ludwigsstadt Slate Museum, Trogenbach Viaduct, Ludwigsstadt Chapel of Our Lady, Steinbach a.Wald Leisure Center, Steinbach a.Wald Rennsteiggarten. (From the Ziegelhütte wall parking lot, a detour to the Thuringian Slate Park and the Lehesten Technical Monument would also be possible (additional approx. 9 km there and back).
