Sigüenza played a large part in the civil wars of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. During the Spanish Civil War, the Francoist Civil Guard fortified themselves on the upper castle, while the Republican forces took to the lower cathedral.
Worth to see is the cathedral. It is a very massive Gothic edifice of ashlar stone, though the lower levels show it was built on the Romanesque cathedral.
