Medinaceli's name derives from the Arabic toponym mad'nat sal'm ('the city of Salim'). During the Middle Ages, Medinaceli was a town that lay between the lands of the Christians and the Muslims. From the Roman era until 1994, its saltworks were exploited for commercial use. There is the festival of El Toro Jubilo on the night between 12 - 13 november..
