Valencina Idol plate
Incisa recorded Slate
Height, 20.8 cm
Chalcolithic period, 3000-2100 BC
Valencia de la Concepción, Sevilla.
Idol on a plate made of slate. Presents a schematic human face similar to that of the cylindrical idols of this period, with the characteristic eyes and lines soles facial tattoo. It differs from them in the incised geometric decoration of triangles, which in turn are filled with a tight grid. These idols plate dolmens are common in the southwestern Iberian Peninsula, which should relate primarily to the funeral world. This museum has a good representation of such idols as those from the Cueva de la Mora (Jabugo, Huelva).
