Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant is a BWR-type nuclear power station located about 2 kilometres southeast of Cofrentes, Spain. Cofrentes NPP entered service on October 14, 1984, with an installed power capacity of 992 MWe. Through improvements, it has successfully expanded its power gradually, first to 110 percent , and then to 111 percent , allowing the plant to supply virtually all of the domestic energy consumption in Valencian Community.
Cofrentes NPP is built on the right flank of the Júcar river, which provides water for cooling. It is located 61 km from Valencia in a straight line and about three km from the Cofrentes volcano, which is generally considered inactive, although its magma chamber still feeds the source of the spa, Hervideros.
