Casa del Rey Moro - Ronda

Description

The palace consists of three parts: the water mine, the house and the garden.

The water mine was built in the 14th century to improve the defenses of Ronda. Taking advantage of a natural crack in the wall of the Tagus, a gallery was dug to reach that of the river and divert the water via a large Ferris wheel. The reinforcement of the lower part of the whole made it possible to do it safely in times of siege.

The house was originally an 18th century mansion. In 1911, the Duchess of Parcent, Trinidad von Scholtz Hermensdorff, bought it and converted it into a neo-Mudejar house.

The Garden: The Duchess's Dream.
After purchasing the site where the garden now stands, the Duchess of Parcent, Trinidad von Scholtz Hermensdorff, commissioned French landscape painter Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier to design the garden. For its construction he was inspired by the Spanish-Islamic garden and the geometry of the French gardens . Today it is a National Monument .
