Chilean hero José Miguel Carrera Verdugo watches his country from the Balcó de las Américas, from the Alameda Apodaca.
The bust was made by a descendant of the hero, Marcelo Olavarría Valdés.
He entered 200 years ago and took part in 30 wars . He shed his blood in Spain and ended up wounded in Cádiz , from where he left for Chile. In addition to his clear military vocation, he founded the first newspaper "La Aurora de Chile", which would later become "La República" , as well as the first military hospital and created the first flag.
