The famous Archconfraternity of the Sweet Name of Jesus and the Confraternity of the Nazarenes of Our Father Jesus praying in the Garden, María Santíssima de la Confort in San Vicente Ferrer is a Dominican confraternity based in Jerez de la Frontera that celebrates its procession on the night of Holy Thursday.
It has its origins in the primitive Asociación del Dulce Nombre se Jesús, whose seat was in the old Hospital de Santa Catalina in the Arroyo. In the 19th century they made a procession with the Infant Jesus dressed in purple, crowned with thorns and carrying a cross ; and behind him Our Lady of Consolation accompanied by the angel . In 1868 the monastery of Sant Domingo was closed and later opened, but the association collapsed.
In 1941 a group of brothers got together to start the old company again. This goal was achieved in 1943, the same year that Juan Luis Vassallo created the company's cover.
The tunic is based on the Dominican habit. White tunic and scapular; black mask and cloak, with the coat of arms of the Dominicans on the left shoulder.
The first chariot shows Jesus in Gethsemane praying to the Father, behind him an angel comforting him. The step is the work of Manuel Guzmán Bejarano.
The second level shows a sad figure under a canopy , accompanied by an angel comforting the patron, as in the Mystery level. The awning is the work of Juan Manuel Rodríguez Ojeda and Vila-real.
Its canonical seat is in the Monastery of Sant Domingo in Albereda Cristina. It is said that after the Christian reconquest of the city, it was in the temples that the first mass was celebrated.
