Plaça Plateros - Jerez de la Frontera - Andalusia

Plaça Plateros is a historic square , a lively meeting place with several outdoor terraces.

In walled Jerez, the Plaça Plateros was a small urban square that connected the Carrer Francos, the old trade axis of Jerez Andalusia, with the Puerta Real, today's Plaça de l'Arenal.

Together with Yerba Square, it constituted a place of particular importance within Arab Jerez , since it was here that commercial activities, religious activities (mosques and the Jewish quarter of Jerez) and military activities (near the Plaza de l'Arenal) converged.

In the square is the Torre de l'Atalaya, popularly known as the Bell Tower , a medieval civil building that served as a watchtower. It houses the bell which, according to legend, only rang when the city was handed over to King Alfonso X the Wise. The tower clock is known as the cascade clock. Its function was to warn of the presence of enemy troops.
